JAY — Brian E. Doughty, 78, a resident of Jay, passed away suddenly Thursday, Oct. 26, at his home. He was born July 23, 1939, in Farmington, the son of Fred E. Doughty and Augusta “Billie” (Wellman) Parsons.

He was a 1957 graduate of Livermore Falls High School and continued his education at DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. He worked as an instrument man and electrician for International Paper Co. at the Otis and Androscoggin Mills in Jay, retiring in 2002. On June 25, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Sandy Cote, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. Following his retirement, they moved to the shores of Moosehead Lake in Greenville, and enjoyed their time relaxing with family and friends on their boat. During the winter months, they resided in Cocoa Beach, Fla. They had recently moved back to Jay.

He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, a member of the International Paper Company Quarter Century Club and United Paperworkers International Union. Throughout his life, he enjoyed camping with family and friends and was a longtime member of the Maine Rovers camping club. He enjoyed a good card game and loved to share a laugh. Brian truly enjoyed people and animals. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by his wife and family.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Doughty of Jay; two daughters, Karen Doughty of Farmingdale and Kelly Doughty Labbe of Gray; three sons, Douglas Doughty and his wife, Brenda of Simpsonville, S.C., Randy Doughty and his wife, Laurie of Jay and Scott Doughty and his wife, Jana of York; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and one grandson.
