DIXFIELD — The Order of the Eastern Star No. 142 Mount Zircon chapter received a big “roar” of thanks from the students and everyone at Dirigo Elementary School’s morning assembly when they donated 41 new books to the school library.

“There’s some of everything; the Nancy Drew Diaries, a whole set of kid-friendly Shakespeare books, there’s some mysteries, there’s all sorts of books,” Eastern Star member Barbara Lane said.

Librarian Terri Castonguay said she is always excited about having new books coming to the library and that Lane and her group have been very generous over the past few years.

“It’s been nice to have the community recognize that we are here and help us along the way,” Castonguay said.

Many of the Eastern Star members have ties to the elementary school where they either have grandchildren who attend or they attended the former elementary school in Peru themselves.

The Order of the Eastern Star has 58 chapters in Maine and is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women can belong. They make donations to charities, schools and for scientific causes.
