PORTLAND — Malcolm E. Davenport Sr., 78, a resident of Fayette, passed away Monday, Oct. 23, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 18, 1939, in Wilton, the son of Malcolm H. Davenport and Helen (Cox) Davenport. He was a 1958 graduate of Jay High School. He proudly joined the U.S. Navy retiring as senior chief torpedoman after 22 years of service. In 1993, at Echo Lake in Fayette, he married Carlene Yeaton. He worked in engineering services at Tracor Electronics and later at General Dynamics in Groton, Conn., until his retirement.
After returning to Maine, he volunteered as a country music judge for DECMA for several years. He was a member of the George Bunton American Legion in Livermore Falls and the Frank L. Mitchell V.F.W. Post 3335 in Jay. Malcolm enjoyed hunting, recently returning from a bird hunting trip up north, fishing, and was a ham radio operator. His call sign was KI1C.
He is survived by his wife, Carlene Davenport of Fayette; his son, Malcolm E. Davenport Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Hope, R.I.; his daughter, Linda Marie Davis and her husband, Tim, of Albuquerque, N.M.; 8 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and his sister, Rosemary Morrison and her husband, Keith, of Poland.
He was predeceased by his brothers, David, Lawrence, Sheldon and Paul Davenport.
