NORWAY — The Better Late Than Never Band will bring fiddles, accordions and traditional folk instruments to an old-fashioned contradance Saturday, Nov.4, at 7 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church.

Some of the band members started fiddling in the 1970s when contradances were popular. The band, known then as the No Name Yet Band, disbanded until recently when Monica Mann suggested getting back together to play for contra dances this past summer in Bryant Pond.

Members include fiddlers: Paul Cormier of Randolf, New Hampshire; Monica Mann of Bryant Pond, Phyllis Buchanan of Greenwood and Susan Reeder of Portland. Julie Gordon of Oxford plays the accordion; Drexel Gordon of Oxford, plays the guitar and banjo; Bettina Blanchard of Portland plays the accordion; and Silas Gordon of Oxford plays bass guitar.

Traditional contradancing is done in two opposing lines, led by a caller who describes the steps at the beginning of each dance.

Band members said no prior folk dance experience is necessary to have fun at a contradance. Caller Crissy Fowler will teach and direct the steps, so everyone can enjoy this family-friendly event. Please bring clean indoor shoes for dancing to protect the church floor.

There is a charge of $8 per person or $20 per family. FMI: email mo.e.mann32@gmail.com.
