DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Turner Universalist Church Ladies Circle is having a holiday craft show from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Universalist Church across from the gazebo in Turner Center on Route 117. There will be crafts, a large assortment of white elephant items and a baked goods table. We will also have lunch available, including chicken soup, corn chowder, hot dogs and beverages. Tables to sell crafts are available for $15. Call Mary at 225-3945. I think your column is one of the most read as you’re so helpful.
— No name, Turner
ANSWER: This sounds fun! Crafters, this is a wonderful opportunity to sell your goods and meet great people. Reserve that table today!
As far as being helpful goes, I try to keep on top of things, but can’t do it without this fantastic community of Sun Spots readers. On Monday, I’ll run some questions that I’m really stuck on. I’m reaching out to see if together we can find some answers and plump up the magic rolodex. Helpful information to pass on to another reader is always welcome and appreciated. Besides sharing information as answers to questions, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone what Mrs. Sun Spots looks for and how this column works:
For a letter to be published there must be a request involved beyond inviting attendance at an event. Events can be published in Community News. For Sun Spots, you should be looking for something or have a question, such as seeking donations for a yard sale or renting tables at a craft fair. Only charities can ask for freebies. Individuals need to offer compensation for items they are requesting. Another type of letter I like to publish is thank you notes for acts of kindness, such as the one below.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Human kindness still exists. On Monday, Oct. 2, on Churchill Road in Leeds, my car was in a ditch, leaning precariously. A handsome young man stopped and asked if I needed assistance. He checked my car for a secure and safe area to attach a strap or pull-chain and we decided AAA was the way to go, but I discovered I didn’t have my cellphone. He took out his phone, made the call and gave them all the information for me. Meanwhile, a young lady who lived across the street brought out two lawn chairs and sat with me while we waited for AAA. Numerous people driving by offered help and asked me if I was OK, too.
— No name, no town
ANSWER: And we are very happy that you are OK. Even a minor fender-bender can be quite unsettling. A vehicle can always be replaced. What matters is that you escaped serious injury and that the kindness these two showed you is a reminder of what is truly important in life. Perhaps one day soon you’ll have the opportunity to show that kindness to someone else.
