LEWISTON — Stephen B. Jacobs, MD, a Lewiston pediatrician, has been selected by the Maine Children’s Trust to receive a statewide award for his longstanding efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect.
Jacobs will receive the Professional Advocate award at the group’s annual recognition event Thursday, Oct. 19, for what the group said were his significant contributions and commitment to prevent and reduce child maltreatment as well as his leadership in advocating for strategies that positively affect child well-being.
Jacobs is from Greene and practices at Central Maine Pediatrics. Since 1985, he has provided medical care in Lewiston in acute care settings, worked as a pediatric hospitalist at CMMC (a position he co-created), worked in the NICU at CMMC, worked at Androscoggin Pediatrics and Central Maine Pediatrics, was medical director of the Androscoggin County developmental assessment clinic, and has provided weekend coverage at Bridgton and Franklin memorial hospitals.
He sits on the board of Advocates for Children, a local organization dedicated to child abuse and neglect prevention. He has three adult children, all of whom are affiliated with the health-care system.
