FARMINGTON — Members of the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Maine will present “Death Your Way: Caring for Our Own Dead, Talking about Death” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

The day of hands-on workshops and discussions will be held at the Ben Franklin Center at Franklin Community Health Network complex. It is free and open to all.

Participants will learn current information about advance directives and learn how to do a home funeral. Experienced funeral guides from Last Things and the National Home Funeral Alliance will demonstrate caring for a body at home during and after death.

Attendees will learn how to complete the paperwork when a death occurs and how to best document their own wishes for end of life and how to discuss how to approach talking about death.

There will be a free screening of a documentary film,”In the Parlor: The Final Goodbye,” at 1 p.m. The 2015 documentary weaves interviews with funeral industry professionals and do-it-yourself advocates, sharing intimate stories of three individuals, their families and communities.

The Funeral Consumers Alliance of Maine is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, all volunteer organization dedicated to providing education and advocacy for the public so they may be informed of the options available for preplanning the disposition of their remains in a dignified, affordable manner.
