LEWISTON — Public Works Director Dave Jones said Monday evening that his department hopes to have water service restored to businesses around Lexington Street by Tuesday morning.

Water was turned off between Alfred Plourde Parkway and Westminster Street on Monday morning, after a break in a 16-foot cement-lined cast-iron pipe, very close to the pipes that provide service for Trident Drive. 

City crews were still on site late Monday excavating to reach the pipe, which is more than 10 feet deep, Jones said. He expected they would cut about 10 to 15 feet of the pipe and replace it.

Jones said they don’t expect there will be a need for a boil water order.
