A Honda Pilot flipped onto its roof early Wednesday night following a collision on Route 202 in Greene.

GREENE — Seven people escaped serious injury Wednesday night when three cars collided on Route 202.

One car, a Honda Pilot, flipped onto its roof with a woman and two children inside.

Police said the driver of that car, Rachel Luong, 37, of Lewiston, escaped with minor injuries, as did her children, ages 5 and 9.

Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Deputy Victor Barr said it appeared Luong had been headed southbound on Route 202 when her Pilot struck the back of a Honda CRV driven by 35-year-old Travers Harvey of Greene.

Police said Harvey, who also had two children in his car, had been stopped and preparing to make a left turn when his vehicle was struck from behind.

The collision forced Harvey’s car into the oncoming lane where it was struck by a 2004 Lexus driven by Lorraine Dennis, 63, of Greene, who had been traveling north.

Neighbors who heard the 6:45 p.m. collision near the IGA ran to the crash site expecting the worst.

“It was loud. It shook my whole house,” said Tony Brogna, who lives on nearby West Main Street. “When I got out here, the kids were out of the car, walking and talking. I didn’t even see anyone bleeding.”

“When I heard it, I thought that somebody was going to be hurt real bad,” said another man who lives in the area.

A friend of the family said Luong had picked up her children from a nearby karate studio just minutes before the crash.

The street around the crash site was strewn with shattered glass and car parts. Several ambulances and fire crews were sent to the area.

Deputy Barr was continuing to investigate the crash later Wednesday. Both north and southbound traffic was diverted onto West Main Street, which runs behind the IGA.
