AUBURN — Police on Friday released a description of a suspect accused of robbing the Big Apple store on Main Street Thursday night.
The suspect is described as a white male with blue eyes, 5 feet, 9 inches tall. He was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. A blue bandana covered his face.
Police were called shortly before 9 p.m. for the reported heist at the New Auburn store. Lewiston police were called to watch their side of the Bernard Lown Peace Bridge as well as the foot bridge that spans the river between Bonney Park in Auburn and Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston.
An hour after the reported stick-up, the suspect remained at large. Police were searching the side streets near the Big Apple as well as several areas along the river. They were searching with the assistance of a Lisbon police tracking dog. While police searched, three of their cruisers blocked the entrances to the Big Apple parking lot while the crime scene was being processed.
Police believe the suspect fled the area in a vehicle that was parked a short distance from the store, but police had no description of the vehicle to release as of Friday morning.
Police said no weapons were involved in the robbery and no injuries were reported.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Auburn Police Department at 207-333-6650.
