Auburn police describe a suspect in Thursday night’s Big Apple robbery is described as a 5’9” white male, blue eyes wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans with a blue bandana covering his face.
AUBURN — Police on both sides of the Androscoggin River late Thursday were searching for a suspect accused of robbing the Big Apple store.
Police were called out shortly before 9 p.m. for the reported heist at the Main Street store. Lewiston police were called to watch their side of the Bernard Lown Peace Bridge as well as the foot bridge that spans the river between Bonney Park in Auburn and Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston.
An hour after the reported stick-up, the suspect remained at large. Police were searching the side streets near the Big Apple as well as several areas along the river. They were searching with the assistance of a Lisbon police tracking dog.
Police believe the suspect fled the area in a vehicle that was parked a short distance from the store, but police had no description of the vehicle to release as of Friday morning. The suspect was described as a white male with blue eyes, 5 feet, 9 inches tall. He was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. A blue bandana covered his face.
While police searched, three of their cruisers blocked the entrances to the Big Apple parking lot while the crime scene was being processed.
Police said no weapons were involved in the robbery and no injuries were reported.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Auburn Police Department at 207-333-6650.
