FARMINGTON — A New Vineyard man indicted by a federal grand jury on cocaine distribution charges last month is being held pending a trial in November in Bangor.
Jordan Richard, 24, formerly of Rangeley, was indicted on two felony counts of distributing a controlled substance on Sept. 14.
The indictment states that Richard “knowingly and intentionally” distributed a mixture or substance containing cocaine on about April 3 and April 6.
Richard pleaded not guilty to both charges on Sept. 20.
A conviction on the charge carries up to 20 years in prison, a $1 million fine or both. It also carries a minimum of three years of supervised release.
Richard waived his right Sept. 26 to a hearing on the government’s motion for detention and consented to being detained pending trial, according to a document from the U.S. District Court.
He maintained his right to reopen the detention hearing at a later date.
The motion by U.S. Attorney Joel B. Casey to detain Richard cited a serious risk that the defendant would flee and that the charge carries an offense of 10-plus years.
Jeffrey Silverstein is representing Richard.
