PORTLAND (AP) — Standardized testing results for Maine are in and while students scored high in English and science, fewer than half scored proficiently in math.
The Portland Press Herald reported (http://bit.ly/2hqIGqs ) the results include students in third through eighth grades and juniors in high school who took the SAT.
Test results show 53 percent of students are at or above grade level in English. Students in their fifth, eighth and junior year in high school tested at 61 percent in science. For math, only 39 percent of students tested at or above grade level.
Results came from the “empower ME” test, which has only been administered for two years.
Students previously took the Smarter Balanced test, but that was dropped after one year following complaints from educators and parents.
