HARTFORD — Police have identified the two men involved in a shooting Friday night that sent one man to Central Maine Medical Center with a gunshot wound.

Richard Tracy, 52, was shot in the abdomen by Michael Beairsto, 33, both of Hartford, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Beairsto lives in a camper trailer on property owned by Tracy, McCausland said.

“At this point, we are still investigating the circumstances of the shooting,” he said. Beairsto is cooperating, and we’re planning to interview Tracy once his condition has improved.”

Tracy was shot inside Beairsto’s camper trailer, McCausland said.

He said the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office asked Maine State Police to assist in the investigation and detectives were sent to the scene.

Beairsto was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, but he will not be under arrest during the investigation, said Cpl. Justin Brown of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.
