UPDATE: Driver in fatal Lewiston accident has been identified as child’s mother
A 1½-year-old child died Saturday after being struck by a car driven by a family member.
According to Lewiston police Lt. Dave St. Pierre, the incident took place in the parking lot of the Pleasant View Acres apartment complex in Lewiston just before 5 p.m. The young child was rushed to a hospital and responders administered life-saving measures, to no avail.
The names of those involved have not been released.
St. Pierre said the accident is being reconstructed and the Attorney General’s office has been notified. Blood tests are being performed, but St. Pierre said there was no indication that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Lewiston police responded to the scene and Maine State Police assisted.
