DEAR SUN SPOTS: We have about 50 boxes of books that we would like to give away. There are varied topics – plays, classics, novels, hard/soft cover. First consideration would be a library or nonprofit. Please call 777-7030. — Jody and Judy, Mechanic Falls
ANSWER: I would urge you to call your community and/or nearby libraries and schools to find out if they would be interested in this treasure trove. Public libraries, as well as school libraries, are often underfunded and heavily depend on the generosity of donations to keep their collections interesting and relevant. You may also want to share the wealth with a senior living facility or community facility where all ages gather. As Stephen King has said, “Books are a uniquely portable magic.” Who knows what doors you will open for someone by sharing your collection.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for all the good you do for so many people. Once again Lisbon Area Christian Outreach Food Pantry in Lisbon Falls is asking for your help. We feed approximately 250 families a month, about 600 people. We run solely on donations and are an all-volunteer organization sponsored by nine area churches. The holiday fairs are coming where LACO has tables to sell goods. We need donations of knitted items, quilts, afghans, and any type of new gift-giving items.
For any type of donation, please call Bert at 216-3460 and your items will gladly be picked up. We are also having a food drive/bake sale/bottle drive from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Food City, Route 196, Lisbon Falls. Please help fill our van. Thank you for helping us feed the hungry. God bless you all. — Bert, Lisbon

DEAR SUN SPOTS: With cable prices climbing every year, we wonder if the claims made by the advertisements of “FreeTVKey” are accurate. Do you or your readers have any experience with these?
Thank you for your invaluable service to Sun Media subscribers and the community it serves. We read your column daily. — No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: The manufacturer of this indoor TV antennae that sells for about $19 claims that this product allows you to enjoy your favorite channels without the cost of cable but the reviews I’ve read say it doesn’t work. Readers, if you have had any experience with this product, please weigh in!
