SOUTH PARIS — Maynard E. Brown, 85, of Minot, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris. He was born in Avon on June 5, 1932, a son of the late Clayton and Evelyn (Hewey) Brown. At a young age, he moved to Gorham and attended local schools there.
In 1949, Maynard enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. After being discharged from the Army, Maynard married Marie Levesque and they started a family together. They were married for 32 years until her passing in 1986. In 1989, he married Lorraine Dumont and the two of them enjoyed 28 wonderful years together. During that time Maynard worked for Southworth for over 30 years until the closing of his division. At that time he became co-owner of Engineering Design of Maine and worked there until his retirement in 1998 at which time he built his third house. Amidst keeping very busy with his normal occupations, Maynard also found time to become a licensed real estate agent, co-owner of the Oquossoc Hotel and a chicken farm owner. He was a hard-working man with a phenomenal work ethic.
He was a member of the Kora Shrine, American Legion, a Mason of the Cornerstone Lodge in Portland and a Registered Maine Guide. He will always be remembered for his love of hunting, fishing and spending quality time at the camp. He also was passionate about building — he built six houses in his lifetime. Beekeeping and raising cattle were also among his ventured interests. He will be greatly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Brown of Minot; his children, Leanne Binette of Lewiston, David Brown and his wife, Lisa, of Durham and Michael Brown and his wife, Sandy, of Auburn; and his stepchildren, Denise Boutin and her husband, Michael, of Hartford, Richard Lacombe and his wife, Tami, of Sabattus and Dennis Lacombe and his wife, Jennifer, of Mechanic Falls. He also leaves behind his two siblings, Hartson Brown and his wife, Gwen, of Standish and Marilyn Mains of Westbrook; nine grandchildren; ten stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-stepgranddaughter. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie, and his brother, Clayton.
