MADISON — Merton Cyrus Parlin, 82, of Anson passed away on Monday, Sept. 11, in Madison.
He was the only son of Cyrus Parlin and Marjorie Tibbetts Parlin. He was born on Aug. 26 1935, he attended school in Anson and graduated from Anson Academy in 1954. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1957.
Merton met his wife, Janice VanMeter while in the Air Force and the two were married and settled in Maine. He worked for Kennebec Pulp and Paper in Madison for 20 years. When the mill shut down he went to work at James River – Otis in Jay. He worked there for an additional 22 years.
Merton was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 39 in Madison and a lifetime member of the Masons at the Northern Star Lodge 0028 in North Anson. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and enjoyed times with his family and friends.
Merton is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice; their two sons, Peter and his wife, Cristal of Skowhegan, Paul and his wife, Deanna of Anson; daughters, Kelly Smith and her husband, Glen, Freida Smith and her significant other, James of Madison and Marjorie Bartlett and her husband, Sam of Appleton; grandchildren, Vincent, Colby and Logan Smith, Kelsey, Jacob and his fiancee, Katie, Kaleb, Kaylin, and Josie Adams, Spencer and his fiancee, Amanda, Cyrus,Crystal, Ryan, Breanna and Brandan.
He was predeceased by his father and mother and granddaughter, Jossilyn Adams.
