George Simmons lives on the second floor of an apartment building, but he was in a hospital bed when he found out Thursday that someone had stolen his $12,000 motorized wheelchair overnight.

LEWISTON (WGME) — A Lewiston man is angry and upset after someone stole his expensive, motorized wheelchair.

George Simmons lives on the second floor of an apartment building, but he was in a hospital bed when he found out Thursday that someone had stolen his $12,000 motorized wheelchair overnight.

Thursday afternoon, Simmons was released from the hospital. Paramedics brought him to his home on Blake Street. Because his wheelchair is so heavy, he kept it on the front porch where he would charge the battery.

George’s wife and daughter broke the bad news to him Thursday morning at the hospital.

To make matters worse, he needs that wheelchair now more than ever. Doctors amputated his right leg a week and a half ago.

Police believe whoever took the motorized wheelchair, battery pack and charger drove off with them.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Lewiston police.
