AUBURN — Edward Little jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first 10 minutes fo play and hung on to record a 6-4 victory over Brunswick in a boys’ soccer tilt Tuesday.
The contest was called with 14 minutes left in regulation due to an impending storm.
Jacob Kyajohnian, Christian Beliveau and Alex Thompson all scored for the Red Eddies in the first half.
Traip 5, Poland 0
KITTERY — Freshman Devon LaRoche scored a goal in each half as Traip cruised to a 5-0 shutout victory over Poland in boys’ soccer action Tuesday afternoon.
The Rangers scored three times in the first half, and outpaced the Knights 31-13 in shots on goal.
Goalie Matthew Thebarge made 26 saves for Poland, while goalie junior Riley Keyser prevented 13 to earn the win in net for Traip.
Field hockey
Skowhegan 2, Mt. Blue 0
SKOWHEGAN — Julia Steeves netted a pair of goals Tuesday to lead Skowhegan to a 2-0 victory over Mt. Blue in an early-season field hockey tilt.
Alexis Michonski also contributed for the Indians (2-0) with an assist.
Leah Savage made four saves for Skowhegan to notch the shutout, while Ericka McArthur turned aside 11 shots between the posts for Mt. Blue (0-2).
Gardiner 3, Leavitt 0
GARDINER — Hailey Lovely scored the first of three goals to lead Gardiner to a 3-0 victory over Leavitt in field hockey action Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers (2-0) also received tallies from Haley Brann and Maddie Walker.
Goalie Hailey DeMascio had 14 saves for the Hornets (1-1), while goalie Avery Backus turned away four to earn the win in net for Gardiner.
Girls’ soccer
Brunswick 3, Edward Little 0
BRUNSWICK — Maeve Arthur scored twice on Tuesday as Brunswick raced away to a 3-0 win over Edward Little in a girls’ soccer matchup.
Sara Scrapchansky also tallied for the Dragons to complete the scoring.
Beth Labbe made six saves to preserve the shutout, while Taylor Depot deflected nine shots for the Red Eddies.
Leavitt 2, Gardiner 0
GARDINER — Freshman Leah Maheux scored on a break-away off a pass from Alison Noniewicx to net the first goal of the contest as Leavitt dispatched Gardiner 2-0 in girls’ soccer action Tuesday afternoon.
The Hornets (1-1) scored both of their goals in the second half. Emily Swan executed the honors.
Goalie Brianna Perry made 10 saves for the Tigers (0-1), while goalie Shelby Varney stopped five to earn the win in net for Leavit.
Cape Elizabeth 4,
Gray-New Gloucester 0
CAPE ELIZABETH — Grace Gillian netted a pair of goals as Cape Elizabeth grabbed a 4-0 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in girls’ soccer action Tuesday afternoon.
The Capers (1-1) outshot the Patriots (0-2) by a margin of 15-3. Prezli Piscopo added a goal and an assist for Cape Elizabeth.
Goalie Chelsea Davis made five saves for Gray-New Gloucester, while goalie Lilia Membrino only needed one to earn the win in net for Cape Elizabeth.
Winthrop 3, Mountain Valley 1
RUMFORD — Sophomore Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone evened up the contest for the Ramblers in the opening minutes of the second half as Winthrop leap frogged to a 3-1 victory over Mountain Valley in girls’ soccer action Tuesday afternoon.
The Falcons (0-2) scored first, notching a 1-0 halftime lead. Senior Brooke Carver converted a relay from Kierstyn Lyons for the tally.
Goalie Lauren Sterling made 22 saves for Mountain Valley, while goalie Samantha Moody fanned a pair to earn the win in net for Winthrop.
Women’s soccer
Bates 3, Maine Maritime 1
CASTINE — Forward Olivia Amdur scored twice in the first half to propel Bates to a 3-1 victory over Maine Maritime in their opener in women’s soccer action Tuesday afternoon.
Bobcats (1-0) sophomore Sarah DiPillo added the third goal for Bates in the 49th minute when rookie midfielder Nellie Breen intercepted a pass from a defender and fed the ball into the box.
The Mariners (1-2) had one of their better chances minutes later when Susan DeFrank dribbled the ball into Bobcat territory, taking her defender one-on-one for twenty yards.
But, Bates senior goalie Sarah McCarthy cut off the angle before DeFrank could take a shot.
