TURNER — Three veteran performers will take the gazebo stage at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 29, for a Music for Mavis concert.
Christine Poulson comes from a musical family. Her mother, Rosemary, raised her six children to sing together and perform at county fairs and community events. She lived and performed on St. John, in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for years. In 2008 she returned to Maine and has been active in the local scene since then, covering a wide variety of genres from Americana to jazz. Poulson is mostly known for her rich alto voice, her infectious spirit, and her love of gathering people for common causes. For the past eight years she has been performed at Sully’s in Winthrop and The Wharf in Hallowell.
Dave Thibodeau, hailing from Providence, Rhode Island, was a prodigy tutored by his touring-bluegrass musician father and his concert violinist grandfather. Young Dave followed suite and took an interest in the guitar at the age of 10. After moving to Maine he studied bass at the University of Maine in Augusta while enjoying memberships in diverse ensembles like the Dani Tribesmen Reggae Band, Joy Spring Jazz and the Kennebec Valley Boys Bluegrass Players. In his travels around New England, Thibodeau has opened for and played with Mose Allison, Chubby Checker and Levon Helm and The Band, to name a few.
Robby Coffin is one of Maine’s most respected guitarists. He has recorded and toured with such notable artists as Peter Paul and Mary, Jeff Pevar, Dave Mallett and Devonsquare. Coffin constantly blows away audiences with his ingenious guitar stylings. His playing brings rich and sundry colors to the sound palette of whichever group he performs with.
Please bring a blanket or chair for seating. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside downstairs in the nearby library. There is no admission charge, but the hat is passed to pay the musicians. A $5 donation is suggested.
