POLAND — A Norway man had to be extricated from the wreckage Thursday afternoon after his minivan slammed into a Federal Express truck on Maine Street.
Police said the Chrystler driven by Peter Quinn, 74, slammed into the back of the truck driven by 36-year-old Travis Gauthier, of Lewiston, as Gauthier was stopped and preparing to turn into a business parking lot at about 2:30 p.m.
Poland fire and rescue crews freed Quinn from the wreckage and took him to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. He was listed in stable condition there later Thursday night.
Gauthier was checked over by paramedics at the scene but declined to be taken to a hospital.
Maine Street was closed and traffic detoured for about two hours while the accident was investigated by the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office and the Commercial Vehicle Division of the Maine State Police.
The accident scene was cleaned up and the road reopened around 4:40 p.m. Mechanic Falls police assisted with traffic.
