AUBURN — Gary Tapley, 60, of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 21, at his home. He was born in Lewiston on May 7, 1957, a son of the late Franklin and Priscilla (Brunelle) Tapley. He attended local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in the Class of 1976. Before graduating high school, he was fortunate enough to have lived at Blackie’s Farm in Minot as one of the boys. The extended Labbe family has remained a part of his life, and will always be his family.

On May 6, 1977, he married the love of his life, Patti Corey, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lewiston. Together they worked and raised their young family in Auburn. His loving marriage, children and grandchildren were his greatest accomplishments. He was so incredibly proud of them all.

For the past 14 years, he was employed as a truck driver for Butler Brothers in Lewiston. He belonged to the Pastime Club and Prince of Peace Parish. Gary spent several decades as a competitor at Oxford Plains Speedway, earning the respect of his fellow racers with his on- and off-track sportsmanship. After he stopped his driving career, he continued to be a passionate fan of the sport and regional racing scene through his son and brother. Those who had the pleasure of knowing him speak of his kindness and sense of humor. Gary always had a hand to lend or a story to tell. His passing will be felt by many.

Gary is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patti Tapley; 2 children, Scott Tapley and wife, Susan, of Poland, Erin Bartlett and husband, Zack of Auburn; 4 grandchildren, Keiralyn and Owen Tapley, Lukas and Ellie Bartlett; his sister, Lynda Turmenne; 2 brothers, Ken Tapley , Steve Tapley; and his wife’s family, who he considered his own, Jan Corey, Judy Reed, Linda Pelletier and Sandra Greaton.

He was predeceased by his parents and in-laws, Robert and Florence Corey.

You are invited to offer your condolences and share fond memories with the family by visiting Gary’s guest book at www.thefortingroupauburn.com.
