BRUNSWICK — Marion Hazel Sheen Bernier, 91, of Lisbon, went peacefully to the Lord, with her daughters by her side on Saturday, August 19.
She was born in Bowdoin, Maine on January 15, 1926, a daughter of the late Edward and Carrie (Douglass) Sheen. She married her sweetheart, Albert J. Bernier, Jr. on February 22, 1947 and together they made their home in Lisbon. She was employed for many years in the Lisbon Mills, first at Farwell Mill as a spinner and then at Worumbo Mill in the sewing department.
She was a member of the Association of Rebekahs, American Legion Auxiliary and Tacoma Lakes Association. She loved baking and you could never leave her house without a container of her homemade goodies and if she was sitting, she most always would be crocheting someone a lovely afghan. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed her vegetable garden, canning hundreds of jars each year, and also her many flowers, always making and sharing beautiful arrangements from her yard. She never ceased to be amazed by the colorful birds at her birdfeeders, always making sure they had plenty of food. She enjoyed camping and bowling immensely and was in a league for many years. One of her favorite things was spending time at her camp in the Summer at Tacoma Lakes with family and friends where there were many gatherings. To her, “the more the merrier.” Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marion is survived by four daughters, Elaine Licciardi and husband, Andrew, from Naples, Florida, Barbara Pedersen and husband, Thomas, of Auburn, Maine, Kathleen Cordts and husband, John, of Lisbon, Maine, Joni Herling of Lisbon, Maine; one sister-in-law, Virginia McIver of Bowdoin, Maine; nine grandchildren, Andrew Licciardi Jr., Angela Licciardi, Benjamin Pedersen, Denise Strait-Marshall, John Cordts, Kristina Cordts-Symonds, Jessica Herling Bailey, Kara Herling Murphy, Scott Herling; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert J. Bernier in 2009; son-in-law: Stephen W. Herling; five sisters; and two brothers.
