These talented and enthusiastic musicians easily shift between century-old tunes of past generations to original and contemporary compositions. Fiddler Chrissy Crowley joins Rachel Davis on fiddle, viola and vocals. Pianist Jason Roach possesses a style all his own, and an unparalleled intensity on the keys. And Darren McMullen commands guitar, mandolin, mandola, banjo, bouzouki, whistles, flute and vocals.
With driving tunes, haunting songs, and infectious energy, Còig is an unparalleled musical force. Irish music enthusiasts will enjoy the Gaelic spinning songs of these Cape Breton musicians. Much of the music of this region is Celtic in nature, but originates in the local area and celebrates the sea, seafaring, fishing and other primary industries. The theater season begins the following week with the debut of the beloved Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musical “Oklahoma.” The holiday themed theater production has been expanded for two weekends in December. The winter production is presented in the annex in late February. “MacBeth” by William Shakespeare concludes the season in June 2018.
The remainder of the season highlights iconic musicians such as Home Again: Carole King tribute, Oct. 21; Dave Mallet, March 24; and Jonathan Edwards returns to the main stage, April 20. During the holiday season, the Chocolate Church continues to offer a variety of musical treats from Motown Christmas with Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations, Nov. 25; Celtic Christmas with Turning of the Year, Dec. 9 and The Sweetback Sisters return with County Christmas sing-a-long, Dec. 8.
Family entertainment is planned throughout the 2017-18 performance season with the all-ages show with master illusionist Vitaly, who has mystified fans from all over the world, Oct. 8; Christmas is Magic Show, Dec. 2; and the one-woman show “The Belle of Amherst” about poet Emily Dickenson, April 29.
