OXFORD — Garrett Hall managed to hold off hard-charging rookie Gabe Brown, notching a victory in the 50-lap Super Late Model Trophy Dash Saturday night at Oxford Plains Speedway.
Hall, of Scarborough, became the 12th different driver to score a victory in Oxford’s premier division this season. Hall led every lap, yet his margin of victory over Brown was a scant .260 seconds. Brown hails from Conway, New Hampshire.
Scarborough’s Donnie Colpritt was fast throughout the feature and earned a third-place finish, while Dixfield’s Scott Robbins crossed the stripe in fourth. Travis Stearns, of Auburn, raced with the leaders for all 50 laps and finished fifth.
Windham-based veteran Jim Emerson raced to his first-ever PASS Modified win, outgunning the competition by a large margin in the 40-lap race.
Ben Tinker of New Gloucester prevailed in the battle for second place, a full straightaway behind Emerson. Glenburn’s Scott Alexander ended up in third spot, followed by Bruce Helmuth of Wales and Freeport’s Jariet Harrison.
Billy Childs Jr., of Leeds, extended his lead in the championship points standings in the Street Stock division, winning his sixth 30-lap race of the year. It was Childs’ first victory in over a month.
Bryce Mains, the closest driver to Childs in both wins and points, earned runner-up honors in front of Lisbon’s Rick Spaulding, who led the first 14 laps. Matt Dufault, of Turner, prevailed in a spirited, four-car battle for fourth position. Livermore’s Tyler King completed the top five.
Waterford veteran Jamie Heath put on a clinic once again in the 20-lap Bandit feature. Heath, the reigning champion in the four-cylinder class, started 22nd on the grid and raced through the pack in impressive fashion to earn his fourth victory of the season.
Heath took the lead away from Minot’s Rob Crepeau, who led most of the race and claimed a second-place finish. It was his second consecutive podium performance. Bill Grover, of Waterford, was the third-place finisher, with former division champion Shaun Hinkley of Oxford finishing in fourth place.
Tyler Green rounded out the top five after starting 18th and racing through the pack with eventual winner Heath. Both drivers were passing cars four-wide during the early laps of the race.
Dale Lawrence of Lisbon nailed down a career-first stock car racing victory in the 15-lap Figure 8 race. Lawrence, who had raced in several other divisions prior to the revival of the Figure 8 class, led the entire race, holding off the two most recent winners in the closing laps.
Eric Hodgkins of Minot chased Lawrence across the line, with Kyle Kilgore of South Paris third under the checkered flag. Tommy Tompkins of Carthage and South Paris veteran David Smith rounded out the top five.
Lanpher back on top at The Ridge
Former champion Reid Lanpher outgunned point leader Curtis Gerry to claim his sixth Pro Series victory of the season Saturday night at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway.
Lanpher, of Manchester, could do no wrong earlier this season, winning two of the first three Pro All Stars Series (PASS) races of the year at Oxford and Beech Ridge. While his pace dropped off a bit during the peak of summer, he and crew chief Jason Ricker have returned to peak speed when it counts.
Gerry settled for second on Saturday, while Sanford’s Jacob Dore filled out the podium in third. Nick Cusack, of Scarborough, crossed the stripe in fourth, while Durham’s Evan Beaulieu finished fifth.
In Sport Series action, Scarborough’s Charlie Sanborn notched his third of 2017 with an impressive performance. Matt Dow, of Buxton, gave chase throughout yet settled for runner-up honors, while Windham’s Clyde Hennessey earned another podium finish in third.
Reggie Leeman (Windham) and Alex Lacognata (Scarborough) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Dave Cameron drove to victory in a hotly-contested feature for the Wildcats. Cameron, of Alfred, held off recent winner and fellow Alfred resident Adam Lovejoy for top honors, while New Hampshire’s Zach Nicholson filled out the podium in third. Defending champion Lewis Anderson finished fourth.
Picard prevails in Pro Stock at Wiscasset
In the premier Pro Stock division down at Richard and Vanessa Jordan’s beautiful Wiscasset Speedway, the competition is usually pretty tight. Often, it’s tenths of a second that separates winners from second place on back.
Ajay Picard decided to end that streak of close finishes, blistering the field to win by over seven seconds on Saturday evening. Picard, of Palmyra, checked out as veteran Daren Ripley settled for a distant second. Newcastle’s Charlie Colby finished third, over eight seconds behind the leaders.
Cody Tribbett, of Richmond, crossed the stripe in fourth, while Woolwich driver Kevin Morse completed the top five. This was Picard’s first career victory in a Pro Stock.
Buckfield’s Chris Burgess prevailed in the visiting NELCAR Legends feature, with Thomas Everson and Kevin Girard Jr. second and third, respectively. Josh Bailey (Wiscasset) won the 25-lap tilt for Super Streets, while Zac Poland (second) and Harpswell veteran Mark Lucas (third) also earned trophies.
Other feature winners on Saturday at Wiscasset include Austin Teras (N.E. 4-Cyl. Pros), and Brian Sweatt (Thunder 4 Minis).
