AUBURN — John Garfield Stone, 70, died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the Hospice House with his loving wife of 42 years, Anita, at his side.
He was born Jan. 18, 1947, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Alexander Garfield Stone and Anna Davis Stone. John was a loving husband, uncle, teacher and friend, and a generous humanitarian. He loved teaching, coaching the math team and helping young people reach their full potential. John, a.k.a the Doctor, spent 35 years at Maranacook Community School as many of his students’ favorite math teacher and many of his colleagues’ best friend. John always looked for and found the best in everyone and brought joy, love and fun to his family, students and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Richard Stone; and his brother-in-law, Robert Couturier.
John will be missed by his wife, Anita; their cat, Beau; his sister, Nancy Page and her husband, Richard; his niece, Leanne Turton and husband, Greg; his nephew, Bob Page and wife, Debbie; his great-nephews, Zachary and Carter; great-nieces, Molly and Sydney; and his sister-in-law, Monique Couturier and her family, Denis, Gerry, Kristi and Avie Touchette. John will also be missed by his beloved ‘rent-a-dogs,’ Peaches, Scooter, Ivory and Winston; and every damn stray cat, squirrel, fox, raccoon, skunk, pigeon, opossum, groundhog and blue jay in the greater Lewiston area.
John always gave generously of his time to help young people.
