AUBURN — Eddy Naples will be guest speaker at the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club meeting from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Village Inn.
Naples was invited to establish and implement a tractor trailer, truck and bus driver training program in 1983 for high school students and adults in the Region 9 School of Applied Technology, Mexico.
He continues to instruct in and direct the program. He works with Bureau of Motor Vehicles and served on the Governor’s Task Force for Implementing New Driver Education Standards in Automobiles & Trucks. He served on the Professional Truck Driving Institute Curriculum & Development Team.
Naples has been an instructor for the Bureau of Highway Safety, teaching Maine Driving Dynamics 1986. In 1979 he traveled to the Holy Land with a group of students and faculty as a culmination of a year-long study in the history of the Holy Land.
In 1992, Naples was named Maine Vocational Teacher of the Year. As a certified secondary education teacher and adult education teacher, he works with youth and adult learners.
In 2014, Naples and other commercial truck driving instructors in Maine successfully worked with Sen. Susan Collins to maintain the only truck driver training opportunity for 16-year-old high school students in the United States.
Naples holds a BA in education and theology, with a secondary certification in psychology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. He received his secondary certification in vocational education in 1984. He has been a MBTI certified practitioner since 2014
Naples is the father of two adult children, Emily and Neil, and lives in Mexico with his wife, Marie. He enjoys cooking, woodworking, welding, photography, computers, teaching, hiking and traveling.
