DEAR SUN SPOTS: The other day I saw an American flag with blue and white stripes. I know one blue stripe is in support of law enforcement, but they were all blue and white. Do you know what this means? Thank you for all your valuable help to us all. — Gail, No town
ANSWER: Where did you see the flag and what color were its stars? This additional information could help our Sun Spots community identify it. Is it possible that the black stripes of the “thin blue line” American flag looked blue in the sunlight? I’d love to see a photo. I’m curious!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: In answer to the person looking for an electrologist, I am an electrologist in Gray. Call me at 657-4000. I hope I can be of service; I offer free consultations. — Jean, Gray

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have been using Wisk laundry detergent all of my adult life and now I can’t find it anywhere. Help! — Maggie, No town
ANSWER: You are the second person within just a few days to ask for help with finding Wisk. It is my mom’s laundry staple of choice, too! According to the manufacturer’s website, this popular detergent that has been on the market for over 60 years has been discontinued and replaced with an “improved” product named Persil, ranked Best of the Year by USA Today in 2016. If you’d like to give it a try, you can get a coupon at www.persilproclean.com/us/en/locate-persil.html. Some select stores still have Wisk in stock or you can order it on Amazon. If you have any further questions, call 1-800-ASK-WISK and the company will personally assist you.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: When my son was born in 2008, a local organization was giving money to each child born in Maine to start a college savings account. We did not take advantage of it at the time. However, I’m curious if that program still exists. As I recall the organization gave a set amount to each child and the parents had to also contribute a specific amount of money at the onset. Going forward, the family was responsible for deposits. Do you know who ran the program I am describing? If so, is it too late for my son to participate in it? —No Name, Sweden
ANSWER: I believe you’re referring to the Harold Alfond College Challenge. And yes, it looks like it’s too late for your son to be part of this program. You would have had to enroll him before his first birthday according to the information on the Alfond Grant website. It wasn’t until 2014 that the conditions of the grant changed so that all Maine resident babies are automatically enrolled. If you need more information, call 347-8638 or 754-1356 or write to the foundation at info@alfondscholarshipfoundation.org.
