Speaking to a few local politicians, I have come to understand that the city of Lewiston promised Platz Associates that the city would build two parking garages and one city parking garage to accommodate the expected tenants for Bates Mill No. 5. That would cost millions of dollars.
Just how much can the taxpayers of Lewiston (and possibly Auburn, should the cities merge) expect to pay to make sure that Platz Associates can fill the mill? I believe Platz has the option to buy the mill for $1 and, once developed, will probably get tax relief for untold years.
Where does the spending stop? Enough is enough.
