OTISFIELD — Hazel J. Raymond, 97, of Otisfield passed away at her home on Monday, July 31, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Everett, Massachusetts, on March 16, 1920, the daughter of Hebert L. and Eva L. Miller. In her childhood years, she spent her summers in Waldoboro, where her love for Maine developed. On March 28, 1942, she married John R. Raymond in Everett, Massachusetts.
Hazel was a stay-at-home mom and ran the books for her husband’s plumbing and heating business while also running the family farm. She was a very active member in The Rebekahs, Oxford Chapter 168 OES, the American Legion Unit 82 Norway, and the VFW Post 9787 in South Paris. For the past few years, she was the holder of The Boston Post Cane in the town of Otisfield. Hazel loved family above all else and in her earlier years loved gardening, cooking, baking, knitting, golfing, snowmobiling, traveling with John and running the Oxford Legion bingo with her special friends, Phil and Franny.
Hazel is survived by her sons, David and his wife, Mary, Larry, Ron and his wife, Jody, and Ralph; special sons and daughters John and his wife, Jeannie, and Kenny and his wife, Linda; granddaughters, Paula, Tami, Kelly, Tracey, and Lorie; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her cat, Cricket.
Hazel was predeceased by her husband, John; her mother and father; her two brothers and their wives; her sister and her husband; and her son, Brad and his wife, Phyllis.
Special thanks to Dr. Peter Harbage and to Beacon Hospice Care (to Sarah and Sam, very special thanks!). Even greater thanks go to Alice Flanders, her caregiver and companion for the past five years!
