LITCHFIELD — A Florida man driving a recreational vehicle driving southbound on the Maine Turnpike lost control and demolished a section of guardrail in the median on Tuesday afternoon.
According to a statement from Maine Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland, Joseph Masterson, 74, of Polk City Florida was driving a Winnebago south on the Maine Turnpike in Litchfield when the right front tire blew. The RV swerved into the median and hit the guardrail, according to McCausland’s statement. The impact threw debris from the guardrail and dirt into the air according to McCausland’s statement.
About 100 feet of guardrail was demolished according to McCausland’s statement.
Pauley Sanipass, 52, of New Brunswick was driving south in her 2016 Chevrolet when the dirt in the air obscured her vision according to McCausland’s statement. Her vehicle rolled over after it went into the median.
She was transported to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta to be treated for non-life threatening injuries and was released a short time later according to McCausland’s statement.
North and southbound traffic was reduced to one lane for about two hours. No charges were anticipated according to McCausland’s statement.
