Interim town manager

What happened: After coming out of executive session, selectmen signed the contract with Brad Plante as interim town manager.

What it means: Plante, who was most recently Poland’s town manager, will serve for six months, from Aug. 1 through Jan. 31, 2018. He will be paid $1,500 a week.

What’s next: Plante and selectmen scheduled a workshop for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, to begin laying out priorities for the town.

Solid Waste Committee meeting

What happened: Selectmen tentatively set a meeting for the Buckfield-Sumner Solid Waste Committee.

What it means: The committee is comprised of the Buckfield and Sumner boards of selectmen. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, with a backup date of Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the same time. The location has not been decided.

What’s next: Plante will ask Sumner officials if they can meet on either of the dates.

What happened: Selectmen appointed Tina Brooks to the Appeals Board and to the Economic Development Committee, both for three-year terms.

MMA election

What happened: Selectmen voted for officers for the Maine Municipal Association.

What it means: They voted for Mary Sabins for vice president for a one-year term and James Bennett, Jill Duson and Gary Fortier for directors for three-year terms.
