PARIS — At 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5, Celebration Barn Theater presents Mike Miclon’s “The Early Evening Show,” featuring comedienne Hilary Chaplain, René Johnson, and regulars Fritz Grobe, Shane and Collin Miclon, and the Early Evening Show Orchestra.
“The Early Evening Show,” a spoof of late-night talk shows, has been performed from Maine to Switzerland and built its reputation with a 14-year run at the Oddfellow Theater in Buckfield.
Chaplain has been recognized as one of America’s foremost professional physical comediennes, performing her original solo and ensemble work for over a decade throughout the U.S., Canada, South America, Europe and Asia. Uncovering the humor in everyday life, Chaplain’s extraordinary work has won accolades worldwide. She is also a founding member of the New York Goofs, appearing with them in prestigious New York venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Medora Musical, and on tour at Wolf Trap with Bob McGrath from Sesame Street.
René Johnson is the creative artistic director of Theater Ensemble of Color and a member of the Lorem Ipsum Theater Collective, both based in Portland. She has worked as a stage manager for more than eight years at such venues as The Baltimore Theater Project, Marigny Opera House, Acadiana Arts Center, and Celebration Barn Theater. Johnson has been a performance artist for 20 years. Her autobiographical one-woman show,”geel,” a story that deals with themes such as suicide, rape, and addiction, is currently touring on the East Coast.
“The Early Evening Show’s” wild improvisations, surprise guests and audience interactions have made it the longest-running live variety show in Maine. The Bangor Daily News called it, “a seamless, hilarious production,” and CBS Sunday Morning called it, “must-see reality.”
Tickets are available for $15 for adults, $13 for seniors (60 and over), and $10 for kids (17 and under). All tickets are general admission; members receive priority seating. Lobby and concessions open at 6:30 p.m. Purchasing tickets in advance is strongly recommended.
