AUBURN — Public hearing on the proposed merger of Lewiston and Auburn, 6:30 p.m. at the Kirk Hall auditorium at Central Maine Community College. 

TUESDAY, Aug. 1

AUBURN — Auburn Police Department’s National Night Out against crime, a family-friendly block party, with food, fun and live music by The Veggies, 5:30 p.m. at Festival Plaza and Main Street. Auburn police staffers and volunteers will offer hot dogs, beverages, a bouncy house, child ID kits, balloons and other items. Kids will have the chance to challenge Mayor Jonathan LaBonte and Auburn native and professional basketball star Troy Barnies in a basketball-shooting contest.

LEWISTON — National Night Out against crime, sponsored by the city of Lewiston and Lewiston Police Athletic League. The fun begins at 6 p.m. at Simard-Payne Memorial Park, 46 Beech St. Movie, “The Secret Life of Pets,” will be shown shortly after 8 p.m. Other free activities include children’s fingerprinting and athletic demonstrations. Refreshments will be provided. Residents are encouraged to spend the evening with neighbors, police, firefighters and community partners. Lewiston Police Detective Corey Jacques hangs out with Hello Kitty and SpongeBob SquarePants at a previous Night Out. This year’s Night Out will be held Tuesday night in Lewiston and Auburn.
