PORTLAND (WGME) — An Auburn man brutally beaten, then stabbed, in the Old Port is still recovering Tuesday night.
Police saying they’re looking for at least six suspects, maybe even eight.
Portland police say the victim was leaving the bars down in the Old Port early Sunday morning, heading up to his car at the parking lot up the street, when he was attacked by a group of six to eight men, stabbing him in the abdomen and slashing his face, all while a woman got punched trying to intervene.
Portland police say the 22-year-old victim and the woman he was with were attacked around 1:30 Sunday morning.
Investigators say the group of men surrounded the victim, knocking him to the ground, punching and beating him.
He also suffered multiple stab wounds.
Police say the victim had been at a bar on Fore Street earlier in the night and was involved in a disturbance in the area that was broken up by police.
Investigators say they aren’t sure if that’s related to the attack.
Police describe the suspects as black men in their 20s, some wearing white t-shirts, and believe someone knows who they are.
Portland Police say the victim in all this is still recovering at a local hospital, and they’re urging anyone who may have witnessed anything that morning to give them a call.
