RANGELEY — The Maine Forestry Museum will hold its 37th annual Logging Festival and Parade Weekend on Friday and Saturday, July 28 and 29.
The festivities will start Friday at the fairgrounds, 221 Stratton Rd. (Route 16). There will be artists and crafters and free children’s activities. From 1 to 3 p.m., a demonstration of the portable sawmill will be held, then at 3 p.m., the burying of the beans for the bean-hole dinner, to be served Saturday, will take place. Friday admission is free.
The 33rd annual Little Mister and Miss Woodchip competition will get under way at 7 p.m. Festival organizers are looking for 6- to 8-year-old boys and girls who would like to sing a song or recite a poem. There will be cloggers, live music and light refreshments served. Admission is $5 for adults; $1 for children younger than 18.
Saturday will start with a bang as the parade steps off at 10 a.m. on Main Street. This year’s theme is “From the Mountains to the Mills.” There will be logging trucks and equipment, antique cars, floats, live music and cloggers
The festival will resume after the parade. There is free admission Saturday for museum members; for nonmembers, it is $5 for adults; $3, children ages 6 to 12; younger than 6, free.
Again, there will be a full range of artists and crafters and free children’s activities, including Barrel Train rides and a mini-excavator for children 7 and older. Events will also include chainsaw carving demonstrations, Maine Audubon display, a bean-hole dinner and the Lumber Jack and Lumber Jill competition.
There will be prize money for every event, with the overall winners receiving a chainsaw.
