FARMINGTON — A Connecticut man faces charges after police say he entered a locked apartment without permission early Monday and got into a physical confrontation with one of the occupants.
Colin V. Phillips, 40, of Roxbury, Connecticut, was arrested on felony charges of burglary and assault with a dangerous weapon, Farmington Sgt. Edward Hastings IV said.
A conviction on the burglary charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine, while a conviction on the assault charge is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
At about 1 a.m. Phillips entered the apartment at 134 Perham St. carrying a 4-to 5-foot walking stick and got into a physical confrontation, he said.
The occupants were able to get him out of the apartment and police arrived.
Phillips was taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington to be medically cleared to be taken to the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington, Hastings said.
Phillips was released on $5,000 bail later Monday, a corrections officer said.
Farmington police officer Kevin Lemay, Hastings, Walter Fails from the University of Maine at Farmington Public Safety Department and Franklin County Deputy Brian McCormick assisted at the scene.
