PORTLAND (WGME) — Portland police say a 22-year-old Auburn man is recovering from stab wounds after an altercation in a Portland Square parking lot early Sunday morning.
Police say the man was walking with a female companion around 1:30 a.m. when they were assaulted by a group of six to eight men. The woman was punched, and the man was beaten and stabbed.
Portland police say they are trying to determine if this incident is related to an earlier incident involving the same victim on Fore Street earlier in the night.
The suspects were described as black males, some in white shirts.
The male victim is stable at Maine Medical Center. The woman did not require hospitalization.
