SOUTH PARIS — Clyde H. Thomas, 83, of Roxbury, died Wednesday, July 19, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, South Paris. He was a resident of Roxbury.
He was born in Rumford on Feb. 23, 1934, the son of H. Clyde and Freda (Garbotz) Thomas and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1951.
He served with the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957 as an MN2.
Clyde was a machinist, millwright and foreman on the No. 15 paper machine at the Rumford paper mill until retirement. He was a member and past commander of the Rumford American Legion, and a member of the Elks and Eagles clubs. Clyde enjoyed spending time with friends, traveling with Gerry, country music, hunting and working his property with his tractor.
Survivors include four sons, Michael and his companion, Kerry Leighton, Douten and his wife, Donna, Stephen and his companion, Annette Wing, all of Roxbury, and Patrick and Diane Thomas of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Gay Hodgkins and husband, Gary, of Jackman; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; his companion, Geraldine Pouliot of Chelsea; and his former wife and mother of his children, Evelyn Kenney of Rumford.
