WILTON — After 40 years in business, Taylor Made Homes-Taylor Construction was sold Wednesday to Adam Cote of Temple.
Dennis Taylor of Wilton built the first house for the business, Taylor Made Homes, in 1976, he said. When the company started doing more commercial work, Taylor Construction was added to the name.
The company, at 471 Depot St., will now be known as Taylor Construction, Cote said.
The sale includes the Depot Street site, a gravel pit in Chesterville and equipment including excavators, bulldozers and dump trucks.
“Taylor has a long reputation of quality work,” Cote said. “I’ll do what I can to continue that.”
Cote, who grew up in Wilton, recently resigned from his job as the town’s code enforcement officer to pursue this new opportunity.
Cote graduated from the University of Maine in 2010 with a degree in construction management. Since then, he has worked for Sargent, Cianbro and other companies including a reputable contractor in Farmington, he said.
Through his work with the town, he learned about shoreland zoning, other state and local ordinances and became a plumbing inspector.
Dennis Taylor came back from Florida this spring to run the company again. His son, D. Scott Taylor, was previously at the helm.
“This time, I’m going to get retirement right,” Taylor said. “I say I’ve been on an eight-year vacation.”
To start, Cote’s main focus will center on excavation work while he establishes the groundwork and values for his company.
“I am looking to provide quality work to people in the area,” he said.
Cote is keeping current employees, five including himself, and is looking to hire someone with a commercial driving license who has construction experience, he said.
Taylor started the company with only himself and one employee. It grew to a total of 25, Taylor said.
Cote wants to eventually have regular office hours but first wants to establish his business, he said.
