AUBURN — Got 25 or more acres in Auburn you want to sell or donate that could hold a new Edward Little High School?
If so, the Auburn School Department wants to talk to you.
The Building Committee planning the new school is working on site selection, Superintendent Katy Grondin said.
“It’s one of the biggest stages of the project,” she said. And it could take quite a while, a year or more.
A community forum on where the new high school should be sited will be held Aug. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Edward Little High School.
“The current site is still under high consideration,” Grondin said Friday.
Auburn has won state approval to build a new high school paid for by the state, so the Maine Department of Education is involved in every step of the planning and building process.
The state has given Auburn officials the green light to start looking for a piece of land of 25 or more acres. It could be that a good site is found to house the high school and athletic fields together, or separately, or that the existing site is the best location, Grondin said.
When three to five land parcels make the priority list, a public meeting will be held to get citizen input, Grondin said.
The site must be approved by the state and by citizens in a straw vote.
The new high school is estimated to open in five to seven years, Grondin said.
Anyone interested in offering land parcels for the new high school should contact Business Manager Jude Cyr at jcyr@auburnschl.edu.
