WINTHROP — Debra Jean (Vaughn) McLeod of Winthrop, 63, passed away on July 11. She peacefully rests after a brave, short fight with pancreatic cancer.
Debra was born on January 28, 1954, in Rumford, the eldest child of Malcolm and Dorothy Vaughn. She graduated from Rumford High School in 1972. Deb married the love of her life, Danny McLeod, on May 11, 1974. The two would share their next 43 years together building a beautiful life and raising their two children, Brian and Danielle. Deb was trained as a lab technician at St Mary’s Hospital and worked for 26 years at RSU 4, first as a secretary and later transitioned to the role of computer tech.
Deb enjoyed baking pies and cookies, which were quickly consumed by family and visitors. She was a loving mother to her children and grandmother to her five grandchildren. She was happy, quietly sitting by the water at her home listening to the loons and soaking in the sun. She put many miles on her bicycle, riding the roads around her neighborhood. She liked making crafts and shopping with her mother and friends. Her friends valued her opinion and would take her advice on interior home designs. She would often send the grandkids home with a goodie bag filled with treats and sometimes a toy after a visit. She was content at home, but wouldn’t hesitate to get on a plane to travel to Italy and Texas to welcome her grandchildren. Deb loved her Boston Terrier, Zoe, and was rarely seen without her by her side.
Deb is survived by her parents, Malcolm and Dorothy Vaughn; her husband, Danny McLeod; brothers, Mark and his wife, Barbara Vaughn, and Dwayne and his wife, Gina Vaughn; son, Brian McLeod; daughter, Danielle and her husband, Adam Read; and her five grandchildren, Hannah Read, Adam Read Jr., Teddy McLeod, Isabella Read and Wyatt McLeod.
She touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Condolences, memories and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the website at www.khrfuneralhomes.com.
