Live music, food trucks and practically perfect weather prefaced the fireworks show this year at the 21st Annual Liberty Festival in Lewiston and Auburn on Tuesday.

Hundreds of people made their way to the James B. Longley Bridge to catch the fireworks show.

Some people set up their spots early in the afternoon, and plenty of families were parked on the grass with chairs, blankets, and coolers of snacks to enjoy the sunny day. 

When 6 p.m. rolled around the crowds started gathering to get some freshly made crepes from the Crepe Bar, blooming onions from Mr. and Mrs. Sausage, and personalized spray paintings by local artists. 

Ayden Thurlow was volunteering at the spray paint booth, selling raffle tickets to passers-by. 

“I’m having a really good time so far,” he said. He suggested picking up a fidget spinner from one of the vendors and a sausage from the food trucks at the festival.

Jason Lavoie of Lewiston said the best part of the festival is community. 

“Community is important, especially around the holidays,” he noted. He said he was there with neighbors who had come out to enjoy the fireworks and the music. 

“This Elvis guy is pretty cool,” he said of impersonator Robert Washington. 

Polarized and The Veggies bands, and DJ Scotty Dawg also performed.

Lavoie said this was only his second time at the Liberty Festival and he was enjoying it. 

“There are a lot of police here, but I feel safe with them out,” he added. 

Entertainers Mr. Drew and His Animals Too and Flow on Fire also performed Tuesday on the Auburn side of the bridge.
