LEWISTON — The St. Vincent DePaul Society awards two $2,000 scholarships each year to area high school seniors who plan to go to college in the fall. This year the recipients are Sophie Mailhot, who attended Edward Little High School, and Molly McCormick, a student at Leavitt Area High School.

Mailhot has been accepted at Suffolk University in Boston and will seek a degree in psychology. At Edward Little High School Mailhot participated in drama club (president), choir, speech and debate. She served as a director as well as an actor in several plays. She is the daughter of Kathleen Marsh.

McCormick will attend the University of Maine, Farmington, where she will major in elementary education. McCormick was a member of the Key Club. She also was assistant coach for her high school Special Olympics basketball team, played varsity basketball, hockey, and track and field. She volunteered in Africa to teach English and math to 53 children. McCormick is the daughter of Daniel and Wanda McCormick.
