Emily Cain is heading to Washington after all.

Though the two-time Democratic congressional candidate couldn’t come up with a win in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, she’s been tapped to serve as the executive director of Emily’s List, a group devoted to electing women to office across the nation.

Cain said in a Facebook post early Wednesday she is excited to be joining with others at Emily’s List.

“Many new adventures ahead as I work to help more women get ready to run and ready to win at all levels of government across the nation!” Cain wrote.

Cain, 37, served in the state Legislature before taking aim at a U.S. House seat that proved elusive for her despite a flood of campaign money that made her races among the most highly visible anywhere.

“My hope is I’ll have instant credibility with the candidates we talk to across the country because I’ve been there,” Cain told The Washington Post.

“The opportunity for us is not only to win seats that have been traditionally Democratic, but to do everything we can to meet the voters in the Trump-won districts — to connect with them, hear their stories and meet their needs,” she said.

Cain said she plans to work in the nation’s capital during the week and to return home to Orono on weekends.

Since February, Cain has worked as chief strategy officer at HistoryIT, a Portland-based firm making history digital.
