AUBURN — Edgar H. Thompson, 87, of Auburn passed away Tuesday, May 30, in Auburn, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Caribou on March 14, 1930, a son of the late Elmer and Blanche (White) Thompson. He attended school in northern Maine, graduating from Caribou High School. On June 27, 1950, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Stairs in Caribou. They gradually moved down to central Maine, settling in Auburn. Edgar worked as a tractor-trailer driver for Pepsi for 27 years before retiring in 1997. He was a member of The Sixth St. Congressional Church in Auburn and was also a member of Oddfellows Hall. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, square dancing and anything associated with the great outdoors in the state of Maine. He was a particularly avid hockey fan, especially of The Lewiston Maineiacs, being a season ticket holder for all the years the team was in Lewiston.
Edgar is survived by his daughter, Lori Lynn Thompson of Auburn; a son, Darin Thompson and wife, Jennifer, of Poland, a grandchild, Michael Girouard of Cambridge, Mass.; a sister, Ruth Plummer of Lincoln; and sisters-in law, Earlene Hopkins, Jeannette Stairs, Jeanette Hanson and Dorothy Adams.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of almost 65 years, Marilyn, who passed away in 2014; a son, Brian Thompson; a brother, Wendell Thompson; brothers-in-law, Sonny Plummer, Dave Hopkins, Claude Stairs, Paul Hanson, Phil Adams and Walter “Buzzy” Stairs; and a sister-in-law, Joan Stairs.
