Despite being mauled by Plattsburgh State players, Bates’ Charlie Fay squeezes through to get a shot off during a playoff game in Lewiston on May 10.
Bates College men’s lacrosse player Charlie Fay was selected by the Boston Cannons in the 2017 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft on Sunday.
Fay, a senior attackman from Falmouth who graduated from Bates on Sunday, was taken in the seventh round of the draft, and was the 59th player selected overall. He is the first Bobcat to be drafted by an MLL franchise.
The 6-foot-4 Fay was a First Team Division III All-American in his senior season, as well as the NESCAC and NEILA Player of the Year. He scored a team-record 79 goals and accumulated 104 points in his final collegiate season and finished his career with 206 points (167 goals, 39 assists).
Fay will be following in the footsteps of another Bates lacrosse alum. B.J. Majeski, a 2006 graduate, was signed by the Cannons out of open tryouts in 2007.
