LIVERMORE — A group of concerned citizens have been hard at work planning numerous events to help cover medical expenses for Brady Donahue, who was injured in a snowmobile accident on March 4.

Brady is a 2016 graduate of Spruce Mountain High School. He was furthering his education at the time of the accident.

The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. in Sherman Mills and 911 was called. He was transported by toboggan to the ambulance, then to Millinocket Regional Hospital.

Brady was stabilized there, then air lifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He had two surgeries and remained in the Intensive Care Unit.

On March 17, Brady was transported to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He arrived about 3 p.m. and, by 9 p.m. that evening, was transferred to Mass General Hospital with respiratory issues and a fever.

Brady returned to Spaulding on March 21. He is paralyzed from the chest down and is receiving extensive occupational and physical therapy. When he comes home, he will continue with outpatient therapy.

For the last six to eight weeks, several community members have been meeting Sunday evenings at the town office to plan the best way to raise money. Town Clerk Renda Guild said they have gotten great support from the community.

The group has developed numerous ways to help:

• Donation buckets have been placed in area businesses;

• Brady Strong auto decals, $5 each, available at Livermore town office;

• Brady Strong T-shirts, $10 each, prepay at Livermore town office;

• 50-50 raffle tickets, available at Livermore town office, drawing June 9;

• June calendar raffle, $10 a ticket, 30 chances to win a prize;

• June 9 spaghetti supper, K of C Hall, Jay, 4:30-7 p.m. $8 adults, $5 children under 12;

• June 9 basket raffles, six tickets for $5, drawings during spaghetti supper; and

• June 9 silent auction during spaghetti supper.

Guild said there are already more than 50 items donated for the basket raffle with more items are coming in. A variety of baskets have also been donated for the June calendar raffle drawings. Tickets can be purchased at the Livermore town office.

Jerry Spugnardi donated the Brady Strong automobile decals. T-shirts can be ordered at the Livermore town office; $10 each, prepayment required.

Tickets are on sale now for the spaghetti supper on June 9. Area merchants and people have donated the spaghetti, cole slaw, rolls and pastries. Donald Castonguay is providing his special spaghetti sauce. 

Take-out will be available for the supper.

Organizer Ann Hammond said food for 500 people will be prepared. Any left over food will be sold.

“I hope we run out!” Guild said.

Five to 10 items will be offered in the silent auction. Cords of wood and a handmade buck knife from Cousineau are just a few choices to bid on.

The June calendar raffle will give participants 30 chances to win. Winning tickets will be put back in for a chance to win again later in the month.

Any winners not present at the end of the spaghetti supper are asked to pick up their items between 9 and 11 a.m., Saturday, June 10. Doing so will save transporting them back to the town office, Guild said.

“We appreciate the continued support being shown for this young man. He is fighting as hard as he can. The amount of support from this town is incredible,” Guild said.

“They have always been there for our people,” Hammond said.

“People have been so wonderful. If Brady could only see the people rallying for him to get well,” Guild said.
