JAY — A Leeds man is accused of breaking into C.N. Brown on Main Street late Tuesday night.
An alarm went off at the business at 11:40 p.m.
When police Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier arrived he could see the cash register was knocked over and when he checked the building it was locked up, Chief Richard Caton IV said Wednesday.
Before Fournier could make contact with a business key-holder, Michael Worth, 30, turned himself into Livermore Falls Police Department, he said.
The cash register was broken open but at this time it doesn’t appear anything was taken, Caton said.
When Worth was asked how he got into the building, Caton said, police were told he pulled really hard on the back door and it opened.
Fournier went to Livermore Falls to interview Worth at that station.
Worth was arrested on a felony charge of burglary and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief.
A conviction on the burglary charge carries up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. The criminal mischief charge is punishable by a maximum 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Livermore Falls officer Darian Nadeau assisted Fournier, Caton said.
Worth was being held Wednesday morning on $500 cash bail at the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington, a corrections officer said.
